We aimed to reduce generational poverty and facilitated lasting change in the lives of rural-urban poor and vulnerable households in Kisii County. Our guiding principle of social protection was that all citizens deserved the opportunity to live without poverty, hunger, abuse or exploitation and to have access to basic services.
Vines Kenya was applying social protection strategies in programs that tackled the multiple dimensions of poverty, deprivation and social exclusion. These were powerful measures that reduced risk and broke cycles of poverty and vulnerability, which often were passed from generation to generation. Through cash transfers, vouchers and programs designed to increase access to services such as health, education, nutrition and economic opportunities. Social protection programs helped reducing inequality and benefited not only individuals and families but also communities and the County as a whole. At Vines Kenya, we drew on expertise in areas such as health, education, economic development, gender and social protection and youth development who advanced our social protection service delivery in the communities.

- Elderly persons who are enrolled in our palliative care project may live longer compared to those who are timidly kept in the domestic scene by their immediate family members.
- Orphans and vulnerable children and widows are fundamental in our social protection sector. It is important to train and empower them economically or supply of farm inputs such as planting seeds and fertilizer for increased and sustainable food security.
